What does a barium enema check for?

Barium enema is clinically used to diagnose various space-occupying lesions in the colorectum and needs to be performed under the supervision of a doctor.
Barium enema refers to the injection of diluted barium, which cannot be digested and absorbed by the human body, through the anus, followed by the injection of a small amount of gas to visualize the colorectum, and then through the exclusion of barium from the body to assist in the diagnosis of colorectal diseases by the formation of morphological changes in the colorectum.
Barium enema is commonly used to check for intussusception, inflammatory lesions, congenital megacolon, diverticulum and various colorectal space-occupying lesions such as colorectal cancer.
In order to prevent the barium from flowing into the abdominal cavity and causing great harm, this test is contraindicated in patients with polypectomy, bowel perforation, acute diverticulitis and acute colitis.
