The process of glucose tolerance testing

Glucose tolerance test process is usually fasting after 12:00 p.m. on the night before the test, and routinely draw venous blood, i.e., forearm blood collection, after fasting for 8~10 hours before the test; usually 3 or 5 blood tests are required, the first blood collection is done when fasting, and then the timing starts from the first sip of sugar water, and then the blood is drawn once in the following 30 minutes, one hour, two hours, and three hours, respectively. It should be noted that before the test, stop using drugs that may affect the glucose tolerance test, such as birth control pills, diuretics or phenytoin sodium, and it is recommended to stop the drugs for 3~7 days if the condition permits. If abnormal glucose tolerance is detected, it is recommended to first regulate it through diet and exercise. Diet should pay attention to the principle of regularity and quantity to control the calories in the diet within a reasonable range, and adhere to appropriate exercise to reduce weight, so as to avoid the progression of pre-diabetes to diabetes. For glucose tolerance test, it is recommended to consult the endocrinology department of regular hospitals.
