Is visible nerve invasion serious after tongue cancer surgery

Tongue cancer belongs to malignant tumors, with fast growth and strong infiltration. After invading to the nerves, it will cause restriction of tongue movement and difficulty in speaking, eating and swallowing, and it will be life-threatening in late stage, so it is recommended to treat it actively first and don’t panic. There are lingual nerve and lingual pharyngeal nerve in the tongue, and tongue cancer can be seen to invade the nerves after surgery. Generally, the surgery needs to expand the resection of primary foci and remove the neighboring parts together. For the defect after surgery, reconstruction is needed, choose suitable soft tissue flap or composite tissue flap for repair and reconstruction, after surgery, there will be sensory abnormality and limited tongue movement affecting the quality of life. Due to the fast growth and strong infiltration of tongue cancer, if nerve invasion is found during surgery, it is possible that it is in the middle or late stage, with the risk of lymphatic metastasis, and cervical lymphatic dissection is needed.
