Efficacy and Side Effects of Glimepiride Tablets

Glimepiride tablets have hypoglycemic effect and are indicated for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in whom dietary control, exercise therapy and weight reduction do not result in satisfactory glycemic control. Side effects such as hypoglycemia, gastrointestinal reactions and allergy may occur with the use of this product. Glimepiride belongs to sulfonylurea hypoglycemic drugs, this product mainly through the stimulation of pancreatic islet B cells to release insulin, so as to reduce blood glucose concentration. It can be used for hypoglycemic treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus whose blood glucose cannot be well controlled by exercise therapy, dietary control and weight reduction. Side effects such as hypoglycemia, gastrointestinal reactions (e.g., nausea, vomiting, diarrhea), allergy (rash, itching, hives), occasional weight gain, visual impairment, and rare thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, and others may occur with the use of glimepiride tablets. It is contraindicated for those who are allergic to glimepiride or any of the ingredients in this product. It is contraindicated in lactating and pregnant women.It is contraindicated in type 1 diabetes mellitus, ketoacidosis, diabetic coma.
