Numbness of the foot thumb may be a normal physiological phenomenon, or it may be caused by peripheral neuropathy, lumbar spine disease and so on.
1. Normal physiological phenomenon: when the patient’s posture is incorrect, the thumb of the foot is compressed for a short period of time, and there will be numbness.
2. Pathologic phenomenon:
(1) Peripheral neuropathy: Due to the damage of peripheral nerves caused by diabetes, drug poisoning, etc., patients may have symptoms of numbness of the foot thumbs at the onset.
(2) Lumbar spine diseases: for example, lumbar spinal stenosis, lumbar intervertebral disc herniation or sacroiliac arthropathy, etc., due to the compression of the sciatic nerve in the lumbar region, it is possible that the patient will have sensory impairment of the thumbs of the feet, and have the symptom of numbness of the thumbs of the feet.
It is recommended that when patients have symptoms of numbness in the thumbs of the feet, normal physiological phenomena should be ruled out, and they should go to the hospital for consultation and treatment under the guidance of the doctor after the cause of the disease has been clarified.
