Any surgery may have some sequelae, lumbar fusion is no exception, generally after strict preoperative evaluation and standardized surgical operation, the possibility of the emergence of smaller, but not all people will appear, the possible sequelae are lumbar activity disorders, lumbar pain or sensory deficits and so on.
1. Restricted lumbar movement: Since the lumbar vertebrae of the operated segments are internally fixed after lumbar fusion, the lumbar movement is obviously restricted, especially for those with multi-segment lumbar fusion.
2. Lumbar pain: Early pain after lumbar spine fusion surgery, mainly due to surgical trauma, some people may have intermittent pain, which may be related to the accelerated degeneration of neighboring vertebrae after the fusion surgery.
3. Lumbar sensory disorder: mostly seen in open lumbar spinal fusion surgery, mainly because of the heavy damage to the lumbar muscles and nerves during surgery, so there may be postoperative sensory loss or retardation in the surgical site. In some cases, this symptom can be permanent.
After lumbar fusion surgery, regular follow-ups are recommended.
