How to correct a crooked mouth

The correction of crooked mouth can be categorized into congenital bony abnormality, congenital expression muscle development abnormality, and acquired injury, and different correction methods should be chosen according to different situations.
1. Congenital bony abnormality: It is mostly due to the abnormal development of jawbone, which leads to the corresponding part of the mouth opening skewed. Patients need to go to the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department or Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Department of the hospital to choose the corrective plan, first analyze the location of the bony anomalies through the cranial imaging examination, and then formulate the orthognathic surgical plan according to the individual’s situation.
2. Congenital abnormal development of expression muscles: If the imaging examination fails to find any abnormality, it is mostly due to asymmetric development of expression muscles on both sides, and expression muscle rehabilitation training can be carried out in the hospital.
3. Acquired injury: most commonly seen in facial paralysis, stroke, trauma caused by acquired nerve damage, this situation needs to go to the neurology department for related treatment and rehabilitation.
