Antihypertensive drugs taken before or after a meal generally have little effect. Most drugs may be better absorbed if taken before meals, but it depends on the stomach function. Some patients with poor gastrointestinal function may experience irritation and discomfort if the drug is taken before a meal, so it is recommended that it be taken after a meal. However, since the stomach is full of food after meals, it may affect the absorption concentration and amount of the drug, so most people are advised to take the drug before meals if they have no adverse reactions to the drug. In most cases, the timing of taking antihypertensive drugs depends on the half-life of the antihypertensive drug, pharmacokinetics, and the fluctuation of one’s own blood pressure. If most people have high blood pressure in the morning, it is recommended to take the antihypertensive medication in the morning, but if the blood pressure is high at around 8:00 pm, it can be taken at around 6:00 pm to control the time when the blood pressure is high as much as possible in order to achieve a smooth reduction of blood pressure.
