Is the tonsil the throat?

The tonsils are only a part of the throat. The tonsils are located on both sides of the oropharynx, one on each side, and are also only a part of the pharynx. The throat includes the pharynx and larynx. The main structures in the pharynx are tonsils, soft palate, palatopharyngeal arch, palatoglossal arch, tongue, and posterior pharyngeal wall. The larynx includes the epiglottis, the aryepiglottic fold, the epiglottic creek, the vocal cords, the pear-shaped fossa, etc. Therefore, when it is generally said that the throat is inflamed, it mostly refers to the inflammation of both the pharynx and the larynx, which may include sore throat, fever, restricted mouth opening, hoarseness, and difficulty in swallowing. Tonsillitis only causes symptoms in the pharynx such as sore throat, fever, and restricted mouth opening, etc. The two treatments are also different. The oropharynx is mostly infected by bacteria and can be treated with antibiotics, while the larynx is mostly accompanied by edema, which generally requires additional treatment such as hormones.
