Is it menopause if your period doesn’t come for 2 months at age 44?

In a 44-year-old woman who has not had her period for two months, there is a possibility of pregnancy, endocrine abnormalities such as abnormal hypothalamic function, or ovarian hypoplasia and perimenopause.

Perimenopause is defined as menopause when a woman is older than 40 years of age and has stopped menstruating for more than one year without menstruation, excluding pregnancy. The average age of menopause for women is 50 years old. 44 year old women need to go to the hospital for examination and clarification if they do not have menstruation for two months. It is possible that the following conditions may be present.

1. pregnancy. If you have sex and are not using contraception, and now you have not had your period for two months, you need to check if you are pregnant first. Although the chances of women getting pregnant after 40 years old are lower, pregnancy cannot be absolutely excluded and needs to be clarified after examination.

2. Abnormal hypothalamic function. If there is too much stress, mental tension, environmental changes, too much exercise, excessive dieting and weight loss during this period of time, it may affect the function of the hypothalamus, which may lead to delayed menstruation.

3. Ovarian function declines into perimenopause. Perimenopause is the period from the beginning of ovarian function decline until one year after menopause.

Generally, after the age of 40, ovarian function will gradually decline, so that the ovaries can not ovulate regularly, which may lead to irregular menstrual cycles. If menstruation does not occur for two months, sex hormones and ultrasound can be improved under the guidance of the doctor to further clarify. If menstruation does not occur for more than one year, menopause will be considered.
