When to operate on an orbital fracture

Burst fractures and comminuted fractures of the orbital region, causing collapse of the eyeball and deformation of the eyeball, especially when the optic nerve is injured or compressed, resulting in a drastic loss of vision, should be operated on in a race against time. In addition, if the muscle of the eyeball is embedded in the bone gap, resulting in limited eye movement and diplopia, surgery is also required. If there is no such condition, only the CT of the eyeball shows that the fracture of the medial wall and lateral wall of the eyeball is not accompanied by the symptoms of limitation of movement and diplopia, it does not need to be treated, and only needs local anti-infective treatment and topical antibiotic ophthalmic solution can be used. Especially, the medial wall of the orbit is relatively weak, and the fracture of the medial wall of the orbit is usually caused by trauma, so it does not need to be treated, and it is enough to have a regular follow-up examination.
