What is rectal prolapse?

Rectal prolapse, the Chinese medical name for prolapse, is a more difficult disease to treat in anorectal disorders. Traditional surgical excision and suspension is considered a more thorough method, but problems such as large trauma, complicated operation and postoperative recurrence have always troubled clinicians, and complications and sequelae of some therapies here are inevitable, with some serious consequences. Rectal prolapse is a pelvic floor dysfunctional disease, which refers to the downward displacement of the mucosa or whole layer of the intestinal wall at the lower end of the anal canal, rectum, or even sigmoid colon, turning out of the anus, mostly seen in children aged 1 to 3 years and the elderly, especially in older women, often accompanied by fecal incontinence.
