How long does it take to get the results of a liver puncture

Hepatocentesis refers to a liver puncture biopsy, the results of which are usually available within 1 week, but the exact timing of the results is not clinically specified and cannot be determined with complete certainty. Liver puncture biopsy is an invasive procedure that involves obtaining diseased tissue from the liver for pathologic examination, which is the gold standard for diagnosing liver disease. In most cases, the final results of liver puncture biopsy will be available within 1 week, but for benign lesions it may take a relatively shorter period of time, 3-5 days, while for malignant tumors it may take a longer period of time, mostly due to the fact that malignant tumors require immunohistochemistry to make the final diagnosis, and so it takes a little longer. Although the accuracy of liver puncture biopsy is relatively high, the final result may be false-negative, and it needs to be combined with the results of the examination, the patient’s symptoms, signs and other auxiliary examination results to make a comprehensive judgment.
