What is the cause of a stiff tongue and difficulty in speaking and swallowing?

Stiff tongue and poor speech and difficulty in swallowing may be due to cerebrovascular disease, intracranial infection, intracranial tumors and so on.
1. Cerebrovascular diseases: such as transient ischemic attack, cerebral thrombosis, cerebral hemorrhage, etc., mainly caused by insufficient intracranial blood supply due to cerebral atherosclerosis, arterial stenosis, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia and other causes. Patients may have monoparesis, mild hemiparesis, aphasia, dysarthria, dysphagia and so on.
2. Intracranial infections: e.g. progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy, which is caused by JC virus of human polyomavirus. Common symptoms include monoparesis, hemiparesis, aphasia, dysarthria, oculomotor paralysis, abnormal swallowing, and sensory disturbances.
3. Intracranial tumor: It may be related to genetic, physical, chemical and viral factors. Depending on the location, size and degree of compression of the tumor, the manifestations of the tumor may vary, such as hemiparesis, epilepsy, numbness, aphasia, stiff tongue, difficulty in swallowing, memory loss, sensory abnormalities, and so on.
In addition to the above reasons, traumatic brain injury and other diseases can also cause the above symptoms. It is recommended to go to the hospital in time, complete the examination to clarify the cause of the disease, and then give targeted treatment.
