Recombinant bovine basic fibroblast growth factor gel is effective and is mainly used to treat corneal injury or conjunctival injury and to nourish the cornea and conjunctiva. It is usually used 4-6 times a day to promote healing of the corneal epithelium and regrowth of the conjunctiva. It is usually applied only to the surface of the cornea. Applying it to the surface will promote the growth of the corneal epithelium and will generally provide physical isolation of the corneal epithelium from the eyelid, which will also reduce some pain.
