It is currently believed that rheumatic polymyalgia can be cured by continuous treatment with low-dose glucocorticoids for 12 to 24 months, but there is individual variability.
Rheumatic polymyalgia is an inflammatory rheumatic disease. The latest opinion is that rheumatic polymyalgia is a benign disease highly sensitive to steroid therapy, and it can be cured by low-dose glucocorticoid (e.g., prednisone, methylprednisolone, etc.) treatment for 12 to 24 months. However, a small number of patients may experience recurrent episodes and there is individual variability.
Usually, the absence of flare-ups within five years is understood to be a complete remission of rheumatic polymyalgia. During the treatment period, patients need to enhance the movement of bones and muscles and actively exercise, which to a certain extent will help the disease improve and reduce the chance of recurrence.
Patients with rheumatic polymyalgia are advised to go to the rheumatology and immunology department of regular hospitals and follow the doctor’s instructions for standardized diagnosis and treatment.
