There is no “cure” for hyperuricemia, and uric acid can be lowered through general and pharmacologic treatments.
Hyperuricemia is diagnosed when the fasting blood uric acid level is >420µmol/L on two occasions not on the same day with a daily diet. The treatment of hyperuricemia is aimed at lowering the uric acid level and preventing acute attacks of gout, stone formation and damage to kidney function.
1. General treatment: Drink more water, more than 2,000ml of water per day to promote uric acid excretion, limit the consumption of alcohol and high-purine foods, such as seafood, animal offal, etc., and increase the amount of exercise to improve metabolism and reduce body weight.
2. Drug therapy: through the general treatment of uric acid is still high people need oral drug therapy, reduce uric acid production drugs, such as allopurinol, febuxostat, to promote uric acid excretion of drugs, such as benzbromarone. These drugs should be used in accordance with the doctor’s instructions. Liver and kidney function and blood uric acid level should be monitored regularly during the use of drugs.
