The safety of the “ketogenic diet” has not been widely proven and its menu is not operational at home.
A ketogenic diet is usually a diet that is very low in carbohydrates, moderate in protein and high in fat, and is designed to induce ketone production. Strictly ketogenic diets are under 20g of carbon water per day and under 5% of energy supply. 60-75% of calories come from fat.
So the ketogenic diet is a very low carb diet that is used medically to treat “refractory epilepsy in children” and is not currently recommended for the general population as a way to lose weight because of the health risks.
The main reason is that very low carb diets lead to an increased risk of hypoglycemia, while the brain does not get enough energy. And high-fat diets increase cardiovascular risk.
If there is a specific reason why a ketogenic diet is necessary, it must be performed under strict laboratory tests, and medical supervision, and no unauthorized home menus should be created.
