Diarrhea caused by dampness can belong to the category of diarrhea in Chinese medicine. Dampness can be divided into cold-dampness and damp-heat, so it can be identified as cold-dampness and damp-heat obstruction (dampness and heat gathering to form stagnation), etc. The treatment can be done by using Huoxiang Zhengqi San and Puerariae Scutellariae Lian Tang, respectively.
1. Cold and dampness: manifested as diarrhea, even as watery diarrhea, stuffy epigastrium with little food, abdominal pain and intestinal tinnitus, or accompanied by cold (fear of cold) fever, headache, limb soreness, and so on. The treatment should be aromatic and dampness, relieve the surface of the cold (remove the surface of the cold), can be used patchouli Zhengqi San treatment, by patchouli, thick park, atractylodes macrocephala, semixia qu, etc., cholera vomiting and diarrhea is a damp-heat evidence of the prohibition of service of this prescription.
2. Damp-heat obstruction: manifested as diarrhea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, or diarrhea, yellowish-brown foul stool, burning anus, hot (irritable and sultry) thirst, short yellow urine. The treatment is to clear away heat and dry dampness, and to stop diarrhea with Ge Gen Baicalin Lian Tang, which consists of Ge Gen, Baicalin, Huang Huang Lien, and Glycyrrhiza glabra. If the dampness is heavy, it is advisable to add Coix Seed and Hou Pu (薏苡仁) and Hou Pu (厚朴).
