Falling on the back of the head generally requires a few days of observation to be safe

A fall to the back of the head is generally safe to observe for a few days, depending mainly on the severity of the patient’s fall, and requires a case-by-case analysis. If the fall is not serious, the patient only has mild headache, vomiting, nausea and other symptoms, and there is no very obvious brain contusion, brain hemorrhage, etc. in the cranial CT examination, generally need to be observed for about 3 days. Because after head trauma, intracranial hemorrhage mostly appears 1-3 days after the fall. If the fall is more serious and the patient has symptoms such as impaired consciousness, headache, jet vomiting, etc., and a cranial CT reveals severe cerebral hemorrhage or epidural hemorrhage, etc., observation for about 7 days is required to determine whether serious damage will occur and timely surgical intervention is needed if necessary. Patients who have fallen on the back of the head need to maintain emotional stability during the observation period, pay attention to rest and avoid exertion, and also try to avoid being alone in case syncope occurs and timely treatment is not possible.
