A small number of cervical cerclage procedures actually involve a conical excision of the cervix, and the vast majority of them do not involve bleeding immediately after the conical excision. Some people will have a light discharge of blood, but there will be more discharge out of the vagina. It is important to keep the vulva clean and to change sanitary napkins and underwear regularly to avoid localized inflammation due to infection. In most cases, vaginal bleeding occurs about one week after conotomy as the scabs formed on the mucosal tissues begin to fall off. Some people bleed relatively little, just blood in the discharge. Some people have relatively heavy bleeding, but it is often less than a menstrual period. It is recommended to avoid heavy labor at this time, change sanitary napkins regularly, and keep the vulva clean so as to avoid infection. There are individual differences in this type of bleeding, with the majority lasting about ten days, and some lasting about half a month.
