The period of scarring, or keloid scarring, is usually seen 3-6 months after the healing of a skin injury, and is related to the type and location of the lesion, the patient’s constitution, and the presence or absence of infection during the healing process. Generally speaking, the development of scar is divided into three periods. 1. Proliferative period: The proliferative period of keloid scarring usually starts 2 weeks after the lesion heals and lasts for 3-6 months, with a few extending to 1-2 years or even longer. In this period of time, the localized swelling of the scar is obvious, gradually thickening, higher than the surface of the skin, the shape is irregular and red, with pain and itching sensation, with the growth of the pain and itching sensation will be aggravated. 2. Decreasing period: 6 months to 1 year after the proliferation period for the scar decreasing period, this period of scar from active proliferation to decrease, the height and thickness of the scar gradually reduced, the color from red to brown or flesh-colored, the capillary expansion of the surface of the scar disappeared, itching and pain relief. 3. Static period: also known as the maturation period. This period of scar development has matured, no longer continue to proliferate without obvious changes, maintain the thickness and hardness of the reduction, generally this period of scar is still higher than the skin surface, the texture is harder, the color brown or close to the surrounding skin color. The itching and pain disappears, and the boundary of the scar is clearly demarcated from the surrounding skin. In the early stage, scar proliferation can be inhibited by external use of anti-scar proliferation drugs under the guidance of specialists.
