What is the basis for the diagnosis of glaucoma

Glaucoma is an ophthalmic disease mainly characterized by elevated intraocular pressure, and the diagnosis of glaucoma is based on the patient’s symptoms and eye examination. Eye examination is mainly intraocular pressure and visual field, intraocular pressure over 21mmHg is suspicious, visual field examination has typical glaucomatous visual field damage. Slit lamp examination, visual acuity examination is used to distinguish different types of glaucoma. In patients with a family history, corneal thickness, optic disc morphology, and cup-to-disc ratio can be measured to determine the risk of glaucoma. The diagnosis is made by combining the results of the atrial angle, visual field, and optic nerve examinations. After the diagnosis of glaucoma is confirmed, different treatments need to be chosen according to the severity of the disease. Commonly used treatments include medication, surgery, etc. Mild glaucoma can be treated with eye drops that lower intraocular pressure, and attention should be paid to rest and not prolonged eye use.
