Sulfur ointment is a commonly used topical drug in clinical practice. Its mechanism of action is actually that sulfur produces some acidic substances in contact with the skin and sebaceous secretions, which can kill scabies, bacteria, fungi, etc. It can also remove oil, soften epidermis and dissolve keratin. It is most commonly used clinically to treat scabies, but can also be used to treat diseases like lice, ringworm, acne, seborrheic dermatitis, rosacea, pityriasis simplex, and chronic eczema. It should be noted, however, that sulfur ointment alone is not effective in treating some of these diseases, but sulfur ointment used in conjunction with other drugs may cause some adverse reactions, so it must be applied under medical supervision.
