The bumps on the back of the neck and ears may be caused by two factors. 1. There may be superficial subcutaneous swellings on the skin behind the neck and ears, such as sebaceous cysts, lipomas, fibroids, etc. These are usually benign swellings and can usually be identified by going to the hospital for local ultrasound. The best way to do this is to have it surgically removed. 2. It is possible that the lymph nodes in the area are enlarged, which is commonly caused by upper respiratory tract infections, such as acute pharyngitis, acute tonsillitis or acute bronchitis, etc. After the infection, the virus or bacteria invade the surrounding lymph nodes and become enlarged. The bumps will be hard and granular, and pain will occur when pressed.
