How much diopter is myopia?

The clinical definition of myopia is defined as myopia that is greater than or equal to 50 diopters after an optometrist’s examination. 50-300 diopters is considered low myopia, 300-600 diopters is considered moderate myopia, and 600 diopters or more is considered high myopia. Myopia tends to have an effect on vision and can often be improved with glasses. In children, if the myopia is increasing rapidly, corneal reshaping lenses or a low concentration of atropine can be used to control and slow down the growth of myopia. Adults who do not like to wear glasses can also consider corrective surgery for myopia. There are two major types of myopia correction surgeries available in the market, namely corneal laser surgery and crystalline lens implantation, both of which are relatively mature and provide better vision after surgery.
