Fever is a common clinical manifestation in patients with novel coronavirus pneumonia, and the management of fever in patients with novel coronavirus pneumonia must be standardized. When the fever is relatively low, physical hypothermia or drinking warm water is recommended. Antipyretic medications can be administered only when the temperature is elevated >38.5°C or when the patient is particularly uncomfortable. In most cases of novel coronavirus pneumonia, the body temperature drops when antipyretic drugs are given. However, if the disease is in the developmental stage, the patient’s fever may persist, and although the temperature can be lowered with antipyretic drugs, the patient may experience a relapse of fever. After a few days, most of the patients’ condition will gradually decrease and even recover. However, in some patients, the disease may worsen and respiratory failure may occur. Therefore, the management of fever should be standardized and specialized medical staff should be available to manage patients with novel coronavirus pneumonia. Self-isolation or self-management of suspected patients at home is not recommended, as this may delay the disease. Source: Dr. Yurai
