Can Nasopharyngeal Cancer Live to a Normal Life Expectancy

Generally some nasopharyngeal cancers with early clinical staging may live to a normal life expectancy. If the patient’s clinical stage is late, it may have an impact on normal life expectancy. Nasopharyngeal cancer is a malignant tumor disease that originates from mucosal epithelium of nasopharynx. To determine whether nasopharyngeal cancer can live to normal life expectancy needs to be based on the actual situation, and cannot be generalized, there are obvious individual differences, which are mainly related to the clinical staging of the disease. NPC can be divided into four stages. If it is stage Ⅰ and Ⅱ nasopharyngeal cancer, it is possible to live to a normal life expectancy because of the high 5-year survival rate, which is as high as 95% for stage Ⅰ and 85% for stage Ⅱ. However, for stage III and IV nasopharyngeal cancer patients, the normal life span may be affected to a certain extent because the 5-year survival rate is not high. Generally, it is 68% for stage III nasopharyngeal cancer and 50% for stage IV nasopharyngeal cancer. However, the 5-year survival rate is only used for clinical research and cannot represent the specific survival period of patients. All in all, the prognosis of nasopharyngeal cancer is related to the clinical stage, therefore, patients need to do early detection, early diagnosis and early treatment to avoid delay.
