Oral warts are contagious. Warts are almost always spread through sexual contact, mainly to the genital area during vaginal sex, or through contact, with skin and mucous membranes infected by the human papilloma virus. Warts occur mainly on the genitals and anus, but a few cases occur in areas other than the anus and genitals, such as the mouth, armpits, breasts, and toe crevices. In the early stages, warts are single, multiple, or clusters of small, reddish particles that are soft, slightly pointed at the tip, and sometimes so small that they are unrecognizable to the naked eye. In the later stages, the lesions gradually increase in number and size, and can be papillary, cauliflower, or coronal in shape, and white, pink, or dirty gray in color.
