If trigeminal neuralgia is considered for surgery, the current opinion regarding the relevant expert consensus recommendation is microvascular decompression surgery. In microvascular decompression surgery, the surgical site is designed to reach the area around the trigeminal nerve. The compression between the vessels and the nerve is then removed, so the posterior occipital approach is usually chosen. In the case of left-sided trigeminal neuralgia, the scalp will be cut at the left posterior occipital position, and then a 3×3 cm size bone window will be formed. This bone needs to be removed, and then the dura mater will be cut and separated layer by layer to reach the lesion, and the compression between the blood vessels and the nerve will be cushioned by special materials, and finally the skull will be closed layer by layer to achieve the treatment purpose. In trigeminal neuralgia, more than 95% of cases can be cured by this surgical method. However, after the surgery, the patient’s head CT needs to be dynamically reviewed and his vital signs monitored. It is also necessary to change the medication, keep the wound dry, and enhance nutrition so that the patient can get the best recovery and achieve the cure.
