How to treat laryngeal obstruction

Laryngeal obstruction is an emergency in otolaryngology. The first thing to understand is the degree of laryngeal obstruction, whether it is 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th degree. For 4th degree laryngeal obstruction, regardless of the cause, a tracheotomy should be done first, and even before the tracheotomy, a puncture or incision of the cricothyroid membrane can be done to relieve the patient of the airway obstruction. For 3rd degree laryngeal obstruction, tracheotomy is also usually well prepared. If it is inflammatory, the dyspnea is not relieved with medication, and the laryngeal obstruction is not relieved, a tracheotomy can be performed. For degree 1 and 2, the treatment is often directed at the etiology, such as anti-infective and hormonal drugs for inflammation. For example, for foreign body, foreign body removal is mainly performed.
