Sleep apnea syndrome (snoring) is usually diagnosed through polysomnography, and is usually treated with general treatment, instrumental treatment and surgery.
1. Diagnosis: Clinically, polysomnography is the best means to diagnose sleep apnea syndrome (snoring), which can determine its type and severity. Combined with ear, nose and throat and oral cavity examination, we can find out whether there is any local developmental abnormality, hyperplasia, tumor, and so on.
2.Treatment:
(1) General treatment: improve the symptoms by weight reduction and changing sleep position.
(2) Non-invasive positive airway pressure ventilation therapy: including continuous positive airway pressure ventilation and bi-level positive airway pressure ventilation therapy. Before non-invasive ventilation, pressure titration should be performed to set the optimal treatment pressure for individual needs and then long-term treatment at home, and regular follow-ups should be conducted to adjust the treatment pressure according to the changes in the condition.
(3) Oral Orthodontic Appliance Treatment: Mandibular advancement appliance is one of the more clinically applied ones at present, which is used to move the root of the tongue and the hyoid bone forward by moving the position of the lower jaw forward, so that the upper airway is enlarged.
(4) Surgical treatment: including nasal expansion surgery, tonsillectomy, palatopharyngoplasty, mandibular advancement surgery, tracheotomy and so on.
Patients with sleep apnea syndrome (snoring) must pay attention to it, seek timely medical treatment and follow the doctor’s instructions for early treatment.
