A fracture is a complete or partial break in the continuity of a bone structure. It is most common in children and the elderly, but it also occurs in young and middle-aged people. Patients often have a single site fracture, but a few have multiple fractures. Most of the patients can recover their original function after timely and appropriate treatment, but a few patients may have various degrees of sequelae. The typical manifestations of fracture patients are local deformation, abnormal movement of the limb, and bone rubbing sounds when moving the limb. In addition, severe wound pain, local swelling and bruising, and movement disorders occur after the injury. The ultimate goal of treating fractures is to maximize the recovery of function of the injured limb. Therefore, the three basic principles of its repositioning, fixation, and functional exercise are very important in fracture treatment. 1.Resetting is to restore the displaced fracture ends to normal or close to the original anatomical relationship after fracture, in order to restore the brace role of bone. The methods of repositioning include closed repositioning and surgical repositioning. 2.Fixation After resetting, the fracture is unstable and prone to re-displacement, so different methods should be used to fix it in a satisfactory position to make it heal gradually. Commonly used fixation methods are: small splint, plaster bandage, external fixation bracket, traction brake fixation, etc. These fixation methods are called external fixation. If fixed by surgical incision with plates, steel pins, intramedullary pins, screws, etc., it is called internal fixation. 3.Functional exercise Through muscle contraction of the injured limb, increase the blood circulation of the tissue around the fracture, promote fracture healing, prevent muscle atrophy, prevent joint adhesion and joint capsule contracture by active or passive activities of the unfixed joint, so that the function of the injured limb can be restored to the normal state before the fracture as soon as possible.
