The generic name of Gleevec is imatinib mesylate, and its main role is to treat patients with chronic granulocytic leukemia (CML) in the acute, accelerated, or chronic phase after failure of alpha-interferon therapy for the treatment of adult patients with unresectable and/or metastatic malignant gastrointestinal mesenchymal tumors (GIST). There are a number of precautions associated with imatinib mesylate that should be emphasized: 1. It has not been clarified whether this product can be secreted through breast milk. Nursing women should weigh the importance of this product to them and choose to discontinue the drug or stop breastfeeding. 2. The diagnosis of Philadelphia chromosome-positive or BCR-ABL-positive chronic myeloid leukemia or acute lymphoblastic leukemia, or myeloproliferative neoplasms accompanied by PDGFR gene rearrangement must be clarified before using the drug. 3. Baseline assessment prior to treatment and regular monitoring of hematologic, cytogenetic, and molecular biological responses during treatment should be performed in accordance with relevant disease guidelines. 4. It is contraindicated in persons who are hypersensitive to the active substance or to any of the excipient components of the product. The use of Imatinib Mesylate should be under the supervision of a physician and should not be used privately.
