Most of the cases of otitis media are considered to be caused by bacterial infection. Infants’ Eustachian tubes are flatter and shorter than those of adults, and it is easier for bacteria to infect the middle ear through the Eustachian tube pathway, so infants are more susceptible to otitis media. The home care method of otitis media in infants needs to be analyzed from several aspects, including general life care, local ear care and medication care.
1. General life care: avoid colds and chills to reduce the chances of upper respiratory tract infections. After breastfeeding, pay attention to patting the back and burping to reduce the chance of otitis media due to choking. Promote breastfeeding, can effectively improve the baby’s immunity, reduce the chances of illness.
2. Local ear care: If there is cerumen or purulent secretion in the ear canal, it is recommended to use a sterile cotton swab to wipe it clean, which is more conducive to the absorption and function of the medicine. If there is pus in the ear, it is recommended to clean it up locally to avoid the pus irritating the skin and causing local eczema reaction. If there is a tympanic membrane perforation, the ear needs to avoid water.
3. Medication care: the use of antibiotics can be divided into local use in the ear and systemic use. Especially important is the method of ear medication, drops of medicine need to be cleaned first ear canal secretions, the affected ear upward, drops of medicine into the appropriate amount of liquid soaked for about 10 minutes, in order to give full play to the effect of the drug.
If an infant has otitis media, it is recommended to go to the hospital in time and follow the doctor’s instructions for medication and treatment.
