What are the pros and cons of having a bronchoscopy

Having a bronchoscopy is good for diagnosing the disease and also has a therapeutic effect. The disadvantages are that there can be complications such as bleeding and infection, while it is not for everyone.

The pros of bronchoscopy are:

1. It can be used to view airway abnormalities and to clarify the cause of symptoms such as recurrent coughing and coughing up blood.

2. It can be used to view abnormal areas found on chest imaging.

3. It can be used to biopsy any abnormal areas in the airways seen using a bronchoscope to determine if they are cancerous.

4. Secretions, blood, or foreign bodies trapped in the airways can be removed; tumors or benign tracheal and bronchial stenosis can be laser removed.

Bronchoscopy is usually safe, but because it is an invasive test, there may be some complications, such as lack of oxygen, bleeding, and lung infection. Also, patients with poor cardiopulmonary function, myocardial infarction, malignant arrhythmia, hypertension and severe anemia are not suitable for bronchoscopy.

It is recommended that patients decide whether they can have bronchoscopy under the guidance of their doctors, strictly follow the indications, standardize the operation and reduce the risks.
