Can lupus erythematosus be cured?

Systemic lupus erythematosus, an autoimmune disease in which pathogenic autoantibodies and immune complexes form and mediate organ and tissue damage. Currently, SLE cannot be cured, but with systematic and standardized treatment, most patients can achieve remission. SLE is essentially a pathological injury caused by the autoimmune system attacking its own cells. Abnormal immune inflammation is the pathological feature of SLE. Genetics, infection, and estrogen are associated with the occurrence of SLE, but the specific etiology and pathogenesis are unclear, and therefore there is a lack of curative drugs. Currently, the application of glucocorticoids and immunosuppressants to regulate the body’s immune response is the main treatment option to slow down the progression of the disease, reduce complications and protect the function of important organs. It should be noted that although it is not curable, it is not the same as not being able to control the progression of the disease. With the improvement of medical level and the development of a large number of new drugs, under systematic and standardized treatment, most patients can be in long-term stability and remission, and the prognosis and survival rate of SLE patients have been significantly improved compared with those in the past, and patients can work and live like normal people. Therefore, although SLE cannot be completely cured, early diagnosis and adherence to systematic and standardized treatment can keep SLE patients in remission and protect the functions of important organs, so patients need to maintain a good and healthy state of mind and establish self-confidence in treatment.
