What are the multiple echogenic areas in the liver?

Multiple echogenic areas within the liver are usually hepatic polycysts. Multiple intrahepatic cysts often appear on ultrasound as several anechoic areas with regular morphology and may be congenital liver cysts or those that arise later in life. In most cases, multiple liver cysts are a benign condition that may be genetically related or may be combined with multiple cysts in the kidneys at the same time. If the cysts are extensive, they are sometimes called polycystic liver or polycystic kidneys, and they may increase in number or enlarge gradually over time. Therefore, when liver cysts are detected, it is necessary to actively consult a doctor. If there are no obvious symptoms or changes in liver function, no treatment is needed for the time being, but regular checkups are needed to check whether the cysts are enlarged or increased.
