Degenerative changes in the knee joint occur in patients, commonly due to excessive weight bearing and overuse of the knee joint, as follows: First, excessive weight bearing: Patients who are obese, or who participate in heavy physical labor for long periods of time, can overload the knee joint. Patients can show severe degenerative changes in the knee joint, with degeneration of the articular cartilage and secondary osteophytes. Second, overuse of the knee joint: overuse of the knee joint is common in patients who like sports, patients often run or walk with weight, which increases the wear and tear of the knee joint and leads to joint degeneration, patients will show joint pain, limited joint movement, and even joint deformity. As the patient ages, the clinical symptoms of the joint will gradually worsen and the patient will be at risk for artificial joint replacement surgery. Once a patient has degenerative changes in the knee joint, prompt diagnosis and treatment should be given to enhance muscle strength to protect joint function.
