The difference between directing fire to the vital organs and directing fire downward is mainly in the concept, the attribution of the fire-heat evil and the mode of treatment.
1. As the name suggests, to draw fire to the source means to guide the imaginary fire in the upper burner or the upper part of the body to go downward into the fire of the vital organs, so that it can better warm the internal organs; while to draw fire downward means to lead the fire-heat evil qi into the lower part of the body, or even to expel it out of the body.
2. The fire-heated evil qi in the way of directing the fire to the vital gate gathers in the lower part of the body to warm the lumbar-sacral region and pelvic organs, while directing the fire downward can direct the fire-heated evil qi downward to reach the bottom of the feet, which can be used to improve the coldness at the end of the four, or discharged along with the second bowel movement to expel the heat.
3. The treatment of drawing fire back to the source generally involves the use of warm and hot drugs such as Radix et Rhizoma Polygoni Multiflori and Cinnamomum Cassiae to bring back yang and rescue the rebelliousness of the body and draw the fire back to the Gate of Destiny; while drawing fire downward employs bitter and cold drugs such as Rhizoma Polygoni Multiflori and Cortex Bidentatae to push down the hot evil to be expelled out of the body.
When it is necessary to treat the above symptoms, one should go to the hospital and follow the doctor’s instructions after identification.
