CAS: New coronavirus recombinant protein vaccine design completed, animal testing underway

On the afternoon of February 15, the State Council’s Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism for Responding to the Pneumonia Epidemic of New Coronavirus Infection held a press conference in Beijing to introduce the latest progress of drug development and scientific research. There are different technical routes for vaccine R&D. What is the progress of the stage of vaccine R&D of different technical routes now? Could you please evaluate the prospect of vaccine R&D of different technology routes? Yan Jinghua, a researcher at the Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMS), explains that the vaccines developed by various technology routes have their advantages and disadvantages, and they are all complementary to each other. The work undertaken by the Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences is to research recombinant protein vaccines. Recombinant protein vaccines are, in the final analysis, the most effective antigenic components of a pathogen gene taken out after the recombinant expression of proteins in vitro, made into a vaccine. “This vaccine relatively does not need virus amplification of inactivated vaccine, need a biosafety level of site, so far, this vaccine progress is relatively smooth.” Yan Jinghua introduced that, for now, the design of this vaccine has been completed, and now the vaccine has been tested in animals to see its immunization effect, as well as the safety evaluation that will be carried out.
