Methods of self-examination of the breast

Self-examination of the breast includes visual examination and palpation. First of all, you can perform visual examination, face the mirror and observe whether the nipples are symmetrical and at the same level, in addition to whether the nipples are broken or have abnormal discharge, and whether the skin of both breasts is symmetrical, whether the skin of the breast has orange peel-like changes, or whether the skin of the areola has flaky ulcer formation. The next step is physical examination, which is mainly to perceive the texture of the breast glands. Usually, a normal breast is tender and does not have obvious lumps. Patients with mammary gland hyperplasia will palpate a mass with significant tenderness, and patients with occupying lesions in the breast will also palpate a significant mass, and also feel the size and mobility of the mass, and whether the surface is smooth. The common mammary fibroadenoma has a smooth surface, while malignant tumors of the breast are usually irregular and not easily pushed, and also tend to have a fixed chest wall.
