Difference between atrophic and non-atrophic gastritis

Atrophic gastritis and non-atrophic gastritis both belong to chronic gastritis, the difference between the two is mainly manifested in the pathological changes, gastroscopic performance, treatment and prognosis. 1. Pathologic changes: atrophic gastritis has thinning of the gastric mucosa and reduction of mucosal glands, while non-atrophic gastritis has no atrophic changes and intact glands. 2. Gastroscopic performance: gastroscopy in atrophic gastritis shows that the color of gastric mucosa changes from normal orange-red to grey or grey-green, the mucosal layer becomes thin, the folds disappear, and the submucosal blood vessels can be clearly seen. Non-atrophic gastritis can be seen in the reddish gastric mucosa, the surface may have gray-yellow or gray-white mucus exudate cover, mucosal congestion and edema, folds swelling, thickening. 3. Treatment: Atrophic gastritis generally requires regular treatment and regular follow-up. If non-atrophic gastritis is negative for Helicobacter pylori and is asymptomatic and without erosion, no medication can be given. 4. Prognosis: Some atrophic gastritis can be improved or reversed, but the severe ones are easy to be transformed into cancer. Non-atrophic gastritis generally has a good prognosis. The above is the difference between atrophic gastritis and non-atrophic gastritis. If you are diagnosed with chronic gastritis, it is recommended to further clarify whether it is atrophic or non-atrophic gastritis, and to standardize the treatment under the guidance of your doctor.
