Diarrhea is medically known as diarrhea. According to the cause of diarrhea, diarrhea during pregnancy can be divided into physiological diarrhea and pathological diarrhea, physiological diarrhea generally does not affect the fetus, pathological diarrhea may have a certain impact on the baby, such as malabsorption of nutrients, intrauterine infections, preterm delivery of the fetus and so on.
1. Physiological diarrhea: diarrhea during pregnancy may be caused by improper diet, usually the degree of diarrhea is mild, or transient, by timely stop eating improper or unclean food and drink after the symptoms can be relieved, generally no special treatment, will not affect the fetus.
2. Pathological diarrhea: usually caused by bacterial or viral infections, the symptoms are more serious and last longer, which may have certain effects on the fetus. Prolonged diarrhea in pregnant women can lead to insufficient nutrients in the body, which can’t provide enough nutrients to the fetus, and the fetus may suffer from stunted growth.
If the diarrhea is caused by bacterial dysentery, it may cause intrauterine infection of the fetus or even spontaneous abortion. In addition, prolonged diarrhea can lead to enhanced gastrointestinal peristalsis, causing uterine contractions, and may also cause fetal miscarriage, premature birth, and so on.
If the symptoms of diarrhea occur during pregnancy and the condition is serious, the patient should consult a doctor in time to find out the cause of the disease and be treated accordingly. During pregnancy, patients should eat a light diet and avoid spicy and greasy food to reduce the occurrence of diarrhea.
