How long can I live with advanced gastric cancer?

There are individual differences in how long a patient with advanced gastric cancer can survive. Because the severity of each person’s disease is different, and the type, location and malignancy of each person are also different, some people can only survive for a few months or even a few days, while some people can even live for more than ten years if they are treated actively and there are miracles. Stomach cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors, ranking the first among digestive tract tumors. It is more common in men than women and can occur at any age, mostly after middle age and most often at the age of 50-60. The prognosis of gastric cancer depends on the site and extent of cancer, histological type, depth of infiltration of gastric wall, metastasis, and surgical method. The 5-year survival rate of early gastric cancer patients whose cancer only invades the mucosal layer can reach more than 95% after surgery, and the 5-year survival rate of those whose cancer invades the muscular layer of gastric wall can also reach about 70% after surgery. The deeper the cancer infiltrates into the stomach wall, the more lymph nodes are metastasized and the more advanced the stage is, the lower the 5-year survival rate is. Therefore, the earlier gastric cancer is detected and diagnosed, the higher the survival rate, while at advanced stage, the treatment effect is not satisfactory. In a word, if the 5-year survival rate of gastric cancer is advanced, the survival rate will be much lower, and even the particularly severe cases can only survive for a few months. If the chance of surgery is lost, only conservative supportive treatment and Chinese herbal medicine treatment can be carried out.
