Total white blood cell count normal value

The total number of white blood cells in the blood of a normal person is not related to gender and there is no significant difference between men and women; however, it can be affected by age and there is a significant difference between adults and small children. The total number of white blood cells can be found by taking blood for routine blood tests. The normal range of leukocytes is (4-10) x 10^9/L in adults, (15-20) x 10^9/L in newborns, and (11-12) x 10^9/L in children half to two years old. leukocytes also increase in women at the end of pregnancy, fluctuating between (12-17) x 10^9/L, and can be as high as 34 x 10^9/L in women giving birth. Eating, pain, strenuous exercise, and emotional stress can all lead to a significant increase in blood leukocytes; throughout the day, the total number of leukocytes in the blood is slightly higher in the afternoon than in the morning.
