What’s wrong with high HCGB on Down’s syndrome screening?

HCGB in Down’s syndrome screening results is the free chorionic gonadotropin level, with a normal value between 0.5 and 2.0 during pregnancy. A high HCGB on a Down’s syndrome screening result is an abnormal result. However, a slightly high result for this single test is not really significant. The risk factor for the fetus to have Down syndrome needs to be calculated by combining the results of the free estriol level and the alpha-fetoprotein test, as well as the maternal age, weight and gestational week. If the final assessment result is low risk, it is normal; if it is at high risk or critical risk, further tests such as amniocentesis or non-invasive DNA should be considered to confirm the diagnosis.
