Postpartum pulmonary embolism is a pulmonary embolism caused by prolonged bed rest and dislodgment of deep vein thrombosis in the lower limbs after delivery. Labor is an extremely physically demanding event. After giving birth, you will feel weak and fatigued, and spend most of your time resting in bed. Lack of adequate exercise will affect blood flow, and the slow return of blood from the deep veins will easily lead to deep vein thrombosis, which will cause pulmonary embolism when the thrombus is dislodged. During the whole period of pregnancy and childbirth, pregnant women are in a state of high blood coagulation, and the enlarged uterus presses the abdominal veins for a long time, which affects the blood return, leading to varicose veins in the lower limbs and pelvic veins, which can easily lead to thrombosis, and the dislodgement of thrombus can cause pulmonary embolism. Therefore, postpartum women should be encouraged to get out of bed as soon as the patient’s condition permits.
