Yin Chen Si Ling San is composed of Yin Chen, Atractylodes Macrocephala, Ze Xie Diarrhea, Poria and Poria.
Yin Chen is bitter and pungent in flavor but slightly cold in nature, and is classified into the bile, liver, stomach and spleen meridians. It is often used for relieving bile and jaundice, clearing heat and removing dampness. Atractylodes macrocephala is sweet and bitter in flavor and warm in nature, and belongs to the stomach meridian and spleen meridian. It is often used for inducing diuresis and drying dampness, invigorating the spleen and tonifying Qi, tranquilizing the fetus and stopping sweating. Atractylodes macrocephala is contraindicated in cases of yin deficiency, dryness and thirst, and gas stagnation and distension.
Zedoary, sweet and cold in nature, belongs to bladder meridian and kidney meridian. Often used in seepage of dampness and diuresis, reduce fat and turbidity, drainage of heat, renal deficiency, avoid serving the essence of slippery. Poria is sweet and bland in flavor and flat in nature, belonging to bladder meridian and kidney meridian. It is often used to promote the flow of water and dampness (to promote the flow of water to dispel dampness), and should not be taken by those who have no water-dampness.
Poria is sweet and bland in flavor, but flat in nature, and belongs to heart, lung, spleen and kidney meridians. It is used for inducing diuresis and seepage of dampness, strengthening the spleen and tranquilizing the heart. It is contraindicated for those with deficiency of cold, essence and slippery or qi deficiency.
Yin Chen Si Ling San is used for treating jaundice due to dampness-heat, dysuria (unruly urination), and a heavy preference for dampness.
