It generally takes about 1.5-3 years to wear braces. The best time for orthodontic treatment is when the jaw bone is growing vigorously in boys aged 11-13 and girls aged 10-12. By tugging on the teeth to move, the alveolar bone grows and remodels to achieve the orthodontic goal, and the aligners can usually be removed in about a year and a half. In adults, the jawbone no longer has growth potential, the teeth move more slowly, and orthodontic treatment takes about 2-3 years. Some patients with bony deformities require orthognathic surgery after the teeth are aligned, and the orthodontic treatment can take more than three years.
